In Satan's Honour

Traditional Satanism

Title

   FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1.  Why do you believe in Satan?

I believe in Satan because I was drawn to him at an early age and because of the experiences I have had.  I became a Satanist because of the respect, reverence and love I have for Satan; not out of fear as many people do with the god they follow because they fear eternal punishment if they don’t.  I believe in what Satan stands for and he has made a big difference in my life.  Satan is my Father, Teacher, Protector, Mentor, Creator, Destroyer, Friend and God.  He has been with me since my beginning and he has chosen me to follow him.  He has put me on a path and I gladly accept it as the path in which I will walk for the rest of my life.  Is it easy?  No, but it is where I belong.

2.  How do you view Satan?

It is my belief that Satan has existed since the beginning.  He is the entity whose presence many have felt throughout history and throughout the world.  He has taught those who he has entrusted with his knowledge and wisdom and many have worshipped him; yet depending on the time and place, he has been called by many different names.  He was the Serpent in the Garden of Eden, as well as the Angel who defied a tyrant god; he is the Dragon who creates change and is wise beyond measure and is Melek Ta’us, the Peacock Angel who dictated to man his Al-Jilwah.  Satan is neither good nor evil, as he is beyond such labels.  He shows love and hate, happiness and anger; he does things which we classify as good and that which we classify as bad, yet everything is done for a reason.  He creates and destroys and causes happiness as well as misery.  He is beyond words, beyond time, beyond any description.  He is Satan.

3.  What does Satan stand for?

Satan stands for freedom, strength, creativity, wisdom, knowledge, empowerment, individuality, striving to be all that one can be, inspiration, truth, justice, responsibility, ethics not morals, constant learning, being true to oneself and standing up for what is right.

4.  What different kinds of Satanism are there?  What are you?

There are many types of Satanism, but the ones you will hear of most are 1- Theistic 2- Traditional 3- Spiritual 4- Generational 5- Modern (otherwise known as LaVeyan).  I am a Theistic/Traditional Satanist.

5.  Do you believe there are texts inspired by Satan?

Yes.  I believe that Satan has inspired many texts, but there have only been a couple written throughout history recognized as being inspired.  The Al-Jilwah is one of them.  Many of the books that we have today, including non-fiction and fiction have been inspired, though not many would recognize Satan’s wisdom within.  For those books that are not inspired, Satan still uses them to teach us and one might be surprised at some of the ones he chooses.

6.  What are some differences between Satanism and other religions?

The main difference is that Satan actually communicates with his people and the relationship that he has with us is personal.  He does not see his chosen ones as a group, but as individuals.  No two Satanists will have the same type of relationship with Satan and he has different plans for each of us. When Satanist’s pray, Satan listens and answers and we experience results; both physical and spiritual.  Satan does not force one to obey a set of rules; though he is big on responsibility.  He encourages us to think for ourselves instead of blindly following others or ancient books.  Satan does not want us to grovel before him or for us to believe that we are not good or righteous enough to have a relationship with him.  He encourages us to be the best we can be in all areas of our lives and if we are on a bad road, he will not hesitate to give us a good kick in the buttocks if need be.  It is not punishment, but a way to get us on the right path again.  Satan cares and loves his chosen ones, his children, and if we neglect our relationship, he will nudge us to do a ritual, talk to him, or spend time in his presence.  He misses us when we don't spend time with him and if we leave him, he will bring us back to his side. There is no one like him.

7.  How has Satanism changed your life?

I have the freedom to be myself and to explore every part of who I am.  I am free to read, dress, think, study and write what I want; listen to the type of music I truly like and be the sexual creature that I am without feeling guilty for my choices and how I live my life.  I do not have to worry if everything I do measures up to a bunch of rules set out in a book and I no longer believe that I am a ‘sinner.’  Satanism has given greater meaning to my life and has made me a better person.  Emotionally, I am happier, more content and have more patience.  As a person, I am stronger, more assertive and have much more confidence in myself and in my abilities.  I have a greater drive to better myself in all ways and my thirst for knowledge and wisdom has grown exponentially.  Spiritually, I am more complete.  I am home where I belong and my desire for the things that have always fascinated me has be renewed; presently, I practice meditation, read the tarot, practice magic, exercise my psychic abilities and I feel such freedom to achieve my full potential.  And last but not least, I cannot express in words the great extent that having a relationship with Satan and the Demons has had on me and I will never regret the decisions I have made in regards to them.  My life has changed and will be forever changing.

8.  What misconceptions are you tired of hearing in regards to Satanism?

Having first identified as a Satanist in the mid 1980’s, I have heard plenty of stereotypes and misconceptions in regards to what Satanism is and what kind of people Satanists are.  The most frequent one is that Satanists are evil people who kill babies as a sacrifice to Satan.  Nothing can be farthest from the truth, yet it is something that many believe because people have spread these falsehoods for their own agenda; the guilty party primarily being Christians.  Hollywood has also done its own damage and instead of researching Satanism to find out what is true and then presenting how it really is, they choose what they think will sell, with no regard that it represents Satan or his followers wrongly.  Another misconception regarding children is that Satanists molest and use them for whatever reason and once again, this is very, very false.  I ask the question, how often have there been valid news reports where a Satanist has molested a child or been involved in child pornography?  Compare this to the huge number of reports on pedophile Catholic priests who have molested altar boys and other Christian leaders/pastors who have been involved in luring children they met online for sex or for having child pornography.  There is no comparison.  I know many Satanists and every one of them, including myself, love children and have a fierce belief that they should never be hurt and always protected against harm.  Other misconceptions are that Satanists commit crimes, steal, lie, cheat and hurt people; yet the truth is that most of us are law abiding citizens who want the best for ourselves and our loved ones.  And something which is often portrayed in the media and in news reports is that Satanists are just angry, rebellious teenagers who are depressed most of the time.  They don’t talk of the people who are serious about their beliefs and who believe in Satan not because we are mad at “God” or the Christian church, but because we were drawn to him and believe in what he stands for and love him.  We are not negative and are serious when we have to be and if one were to make a positive decision to get to know us, they would discover that we have a great sense of humor, are fun to be with and very caring and protective towards those we love. One other misconception that I must give attention to and that is people seem to think that Satanists are nothing but reverse Christians who have similar beliefs, yet side with Satan and have nothing unique or good to offer.  This of course is false and most Satanists would tell you that their ideology, philosophy, theology and view of Satan, is very different than that of Christians. Our beliefs do not stand or fall on the religious beliefs or books of others.

9.  Do all Satanists worship Demons?  Do you?

Not all Satanists worship or have a connection with demons, yet they do revere and respect them.  I, myself do worship and have a connection with many demons and they are a huge part of my life.

10.  Do Satanists put curses on people?  Under what circumstances do you believe that a curse is warranted?

Yes, some Satanists do put curses on people, but not all do.  Satanists differ in their opinion on curses and while some believe that curses are warranted for certain actions, others don’t believe that curses should be performed.  There are also different kinds of curses, some more intense than others; for example, one might put a spell on someone to effect their success in their job, while another might do an out and out destruction ritual.  A curse should be justified and should be in proportion to the offense.  I believe that a curse is warranted when a person or a member of their family has been purposefully hurt in some way; but in all circumstances, it should be carefully considered and only performed if the person is certain they want the outcome.

11.  Do you believe that a person can be possessed?

I do believe that a person can be taken over by an entity and used for their purpose. Yet I strongly believe that a person should seek medical advice BEFORE one concludes they are being influenced by an entity. The same goes for someone who assumes that someone else might be possessed. One should not draw conclusions as there might very likely be a medical reason as to why a person might behave as if they are “possessed.”  There are quite a few differences between possession and channeling a demon or spirit.

12.  How do I determine what is the right Satanic organization for me?

As a Satanist you do not HAVE to join a Satanic organization, but it can be worthwhile in many ways especially spiritually, as it will give you the opportunity to practice your religion with your fellow Satanists and exchange knowledge, wisdom and experience.  But before you decide to commit to an organization there are some things you will want to do before you make the final decision; the first one being you will want to check out a number of organizations and groups to see which ones you resonate with the most.  You want to find out which groups have the same or very similar beliefs as you in regards to Satan, theology, ideology, practices and ethics.  You will also want to get to know the leaders and see how they interact with their members and if they encourage them in their relationship with Satan and in their studies.  You don’t want to be in an organization where you are not learning and growing, where there is not the opportunity for advancement and if you are not able to practice your religion with the other members.  After a time, when you feel that you resonate with one organization more than the others, focus your time and energy getting to know the leaders and members at a deeper level and learn in depth their beliefs and practices.  First and foremost you will want to make sure that their motive for starting and leading a Satanic organization is genuine and what their overall goals are.  In addition, you will want to know in which ways you will be able to make a difference in the organization and if what they want to do for Satanism is similar to your own. Don’t commit to something unless you are totally sure that it is what is best for you in all areas of your life.

13.  I belong to a Satanic group and the members are angry at me.  Does this mean that Satan is mad at me too?

No.  Your relationship with Satan is a personal one.  Don't assume that because there is conflict within a group, that Satan is angry at you for whatever might be going on.  If you feel something is getting in the way of your relationship with Satan, ask him about it and if there is, then work on what needs to be straightened out.  Don't worry yourself to death and come to conclusions that will only make you feel bad. Satan does not think like humans and won't get angry with you just because something is going on in a group or because someone tells you he is.  No one can speak for Satan.

14.  How do I find a good teacher?

If you want to find a teacher, you need to get to know many different Satanists and get involved in the Satanic community both online and offline, if possible.  You want a person who truly knows about Satanism and its practices, the occult and magic and you want them to be real.  They should be who they say they are and no less; their motives for wanting to teach you should be genuine and they should be able to communicate well with you.  A good leader will empower you, not make you dependant on them and they will encourage you to grow in all ways; not just spiritually but mentally as well.  They will push you to better yourself in all areas of your life including physically, emotionally, financially, in your education, and in developing your talents and using them for Satan.  A teacher will help you develop your occult/psychic powers but then will push you to use them on your own and will not allow you to remain stagnant.  A teacher will be there for you, yet don’t expect them to hold your hand forever; after the beginning time of learning, they will start to let go and expect you to walk on your own and will be happy with your growth. At this time you should start being able to discern what it is that you want to do for Satan and Satanism as an individual and as the process continues, you will begin to move from student to a teacher yourself.

15. How often should Satanists pray and perform rituals?

Satanists should spend as much time with Satan as they can or feel drawn to.  There are no rules as to the amount of time that Satanists should do these things, but by doing so, your relationship with Satan will be strengthened and it is a special time for you to focus on listening to his voice and what he might have to tell you.  It can be a sign as to how a person is doing spiritually, as the closer one is to Satan, the more time they will want to spend with him.

16.  I want to connect with Satan, what is a good way to do that?

A good way to start connecting with Satan is simpler than one might think.  All you need to do at first is to start praying to him and he will hear you.  You will also want to get a black candle and meditate on the flame and pray to Satan as you do that.  Ask him to join you and tell him of your desire to follow him and that you want his guidance.  Don’t make any pacts or dedications at this point, but take this time to get to know him.  If you are genuine, he most likely will answer you, but be open to how he might choose to do that because he speaks to each person differently.  Be aware of anything that doesn’t usually happen, as well as dreams that seem particularly vivid and see if you can understand the meaning of them.  Also, if you start to get impressions in your being as well as words that come to your mind, it might very well be Satan communicating with you.  He might also speak to you through books, music, art and nature.  Keep up your prayers, meditations and devotional times and your relationship with Satan will grow.

17.  What is your opinion on dedications?

Dedicating to Satan is a very powerful and beautiful thing.  It is something that one should do, ONLY if they want to dedicate their life and eternal life to Satan and only after they have spent plenty of time as a Satanist studying, learning and practicing.  If a person does choose to dedicate, it is recommended that they do not perform a dedication that they may find online or in a book, but write their own instead.  This way, they will be doing and saying exactly what they mean and it will come from their heart and soul, which is much more meaningful than anything they could have obtained from someone else.  Also, a Satanist should not perform a dedication just because an organization or group tells them to for whatever reason; the Satanist must make that decision on their own when they are totally sure it is what they want to do. A dedication must be performed freely and at the right time, knowing that it is an eternal commitment.

18.  Do you believe that a Rite of Blasphemy should be performed?

No.  I don’t believe that a Satanist should blaspheme their previous god/gods no matter who they might be. That can result in fear and guilt and one should be free of these things.  When one becomes a Satanist, they should concentrate on their relationship with Satan and their focus should not be on other gods.

19.   Do you believe in an afterlife?  What about reincarnation?

Yes, I do believe in an afterlife.  I believe that Satanists will go to be with Satan and the demons in their world, which is a place of freedom, beauty, and wisdom unlike any other.  I also believe in reincarnation for certain people who have not learned what they were supposed to learn in this life or for those who have not finished what they were meant to accomplish.  For people who have committed suicide, it is my belief that they will be sent back into this world to live in the same circumstances and go through the same experiences they ran from previously, in order that they will HAVE to learn the lessons they were supposed to learn the first time around. Also, I believe as the Al-Jilwah states that Satan will send some of his chosen back to this world for whatever reason he deems fit and they will carry on the work that they were meant to do.

20. What is Satanic Unity?

Satanic unity is when Satanists from all traditions and denominations come together in one form or another to work for a common goal, to help one another when need be or when we all stand up together for something important.  It is when Satanists from around the world will join together just because we are Satanists.  In the Al-Jilwah, Satan states that he wants all his followers to unite in a bond of unity, yet at the look of things in the Satanist scene today, one might believe that unity is not possible as there are so many different kinds of Satanists with many beliefs, with big egos to boot.  Now before agreeing or disagreeing if Satanic unity is possible, think about what Satan might have meant by his words.  Even though there is infighting and differing opinions in regards to what Satanism is and should be, Satan wants us to be there for each other and to stand together if need be.  It is not my opinion that he expects every Satanist to like each other or want a close friendship with every Satanist they meet; but he does expect Satanists to work together for things that he stands for despite their feelings for one another.

21.  How can I know if I am Satan’s chosen?

If you are among those that Satan has chosen to be his own, you will know it deep in your being.  When you were a child you might have felt drawn to Satan and/or the occult and looking back, you mostly likely will see that there were signs of Satan’s presence during most of your life.  You may very well have become interested in Satanism at a young age, such as in your early teen years, or even later on in life, but no matter when one might begin to follow Satan, he calls his chosen when he knows it is the right time.  Also, a chosen one of Satan most likely will have always been drawn to the darker things in life, such as black metal music, dark literature and art and especially Satanic symbols such as the pentagram and symbol of Baphomet.  Another indicator that you might be Satan’s chosen is that no matter how many times you might leave Satanism, you will keep coming back.  Once you establish a connection with Satan, you will only want it to get stronger and will do everything available to increase your knowledge about him and in time he will reveal to you more about who he is.  There will be no doubt as to whether or not Satan has chosen you.
